Last fall Davis + I were playing on the swingset in our backyard. William came running out, barefoot.
"William, you need socks + shoes on. Go back inside, get daddy to help." I yelled out to him.
"But I want to play with you." shouted William.
"Yes you can sweetheart, but you need something on your feet. Now, go back inside, and get your shoes + socks on."
"ok. bye!" he yelled back.
About five minutes later, William came bounding out the door running towards us. As he gots closer, I saw that my independent William asked for no help. How did I know? The kid was wearing white socks and suede sandals. Now, Neal knows better than to do that to a child. Plus, he knows I'd give him the look. You know, that look... the "what the hell were you thinking?" look.
"William, you can't wear sandals with socks." I explained.
"But grandma does." my observant kid replied.
I thought to myself... yeah, she does.
"You're not a grandma. So go back inside and put your sneakers on. You do not wear sandals with socks. Ever. OK? Trust me, now go."
Someday his girlfriend + wife will thank me for teaching him this valuable lesson :)
No offense to anyone out there who adores the look + comfort of socks + sandals. Hey, Neal's mother wears them. More power to you! I just remembered this snippet of conversation when I posted those cute knitted sandals + socks yesterday + thought it was funny.
Well, it's pouring outside, but I don't care. Both kids are at school. It's friday. It's 19 days till spring. We have tickets to the Symphony {featuring Bartok} on Saturday night. Life is sweet.
Happy Friday everyone ~
